Today is my last day here in Jamaica and tomorrow I’m heading for Cuba. This morning I left from Treasure beach, after spending 5 nights there, and now I’m back in Montego Bay. Treasure beach has been sooo nice, with nothing but the sound of the ocean surrounding you. Imagine falling asleep and waking up to the sound of waves reaching the shore. If you wanna go to a calm place in Jamaica, this is deffinately the place to go! At one point I started to get a bit tired of the hustlers in Negril, because they would never leave you alone and they did not really take no for an answer. Questions like: can I be your Jamaican friend, can I take care of you and are you here alone started to get tiring. But in the area of Treasure beach they won’t even approach you. You are acctually left alone!
The second day in Treasure beach, me and Orlando (a guy a got to know in Negril) went to a street party. This was a quite big event in the area, with dancing competitions and concerts. So now I have obviously been to a concert with two big Jamaican artists, Professor Nuts and Terry Linen. This was such a great evening, where you can clearly see the party mood of Jamaicans. Because, something I have figured out is that they LOVE to party!!
We also went to a place not far away from Treasure beach, called Lovers leap. This is a cliff that is famous because two slaves jumped from it when they were denied to be together. This cliff side had the most amazing view over the ocean and the surrounding area.
While being here in Jamaica I have seen and heard a lot. It is amazing how expensive this country actually is, when you compare with the normal income for a Jamaican. In so many ways it is actually hard for me to understand how they make their ends meet. This country has a lot of opportunities, they just have to figure out how to make it into their advantage and strengthen their country.
There is so many things I will miss when I’m leaving Jamaica now. I think they have the most amazing sunset that I have ever seen and the country itself is so beautiful. But something I for sure won’t miss is the smell of people smoking weed absolutely all the time. It is illegal here as well, but you would not believe that when you see how many people that are smoking. No wonder that so many people are smoking though, because that is the only thing is almost for free here :p
